Why fiberglass is the better option.

Concrete & plaster

POOL WATERPOROUS WALLSOIL
Exchange can move both ways.

Concrete is porous — it leaches minerals and destabilizes pH, an imbalance that feeds algae and drives surface damage.

Fiberglass

POOL WATERSEALED GEL-COATSOIL
Nothing passes through the shell.

Fiberglass is sealed — the gel-coat holds water chemistry steady, and there’s no porous surface for algae to latch onto.

Warranty comes from the manufacturer. Each pool brand we carry backs its own shells, and terms vary by brand. For example, San Juan Pools carries a 25-year pro-rated structural warranty. The Science Behind the Surface

Why fiberglass stays easier to keep clear.

One surface is porous and one is sealed. That difference affects algae, sanitizer demand, filtration time, and long-term maintenance.

Concrete is porous

Plaster is porous, so water passes through it — picking up minerals from the soil on the way and carrying them back into your pool.

Fiberglass is sealed

A smooth, sealed surface just doesn’t give algae anywhere to start.

Algae has less to grip

Porous plaster gives algae more surface to grip. Smooth fiberglass usually needs lighter brushing instead of an acid-wash or replastering cycle.

You’ll use less chlorine

Fiberglass still needs sanitizer and balanced water, but its non-porous surface holds fewer minerals and the gel-coat doesn’t give algae a way in — that’s why our pools run mostly chlorine-free.

Your filter runs less often

Fiberglass equipment typically runs about a quarter of the time a concrete pool needs, because the surface does far less to feed algae growth.

No resurfacing, ever

No plaster to replaster, and under normal use the shell never needs draining, resurfacing, or acid-washing — removing the largest long-term maintenance events from the ownership plan.

Nevada trusted one man to regulate its pool industry. Two governors picked him.
He runs Renaissance Pools.

Jim Alexander, President of Renaissance Pools and Spas
Jim AlexanderPresident, Renaissance Pools & Spas

Jim Alexander is the only residential contractor ever appointed to the Nevada State Contractors Board by two different governors, and the board later consulted him on fiberglass pool installations. When Nevada wants to know who builds fiberglass pools correctly, it asks the person who runs this company.

  • Appointed by two governors.

Governors Jim Gibbons and Brian Sandoval each chose Jim for the board that licenses Nevada pool builders.
  • Six years on the board.

He served two consecutive terms, helping decide which builders get licensed and which ones lose their license.
  • Nevada’s fiberglass consultant.

When his terms ended, the board consulted him as its expert on fiberglass, the same material your pool will be built from.
  • Building pools since 1978.

He was building concrete pools in California as one of its first concrete builders, and the family came to Las Vegas in 1991, where he founded Renaissance Pools & Spas. The third generation now works alongside him.

"We have had our pool for about 4 years now and we still are in love with it. We made some upgrades to it over the years; solar water heater, three stage pump and a better filtration system. I have had a couple of Gunite/plaster pools in the past and fiberglass is the way to go in our opinion. We highly recommend Renaissance Pools!"

FAQ

Common questions.

Who actually builds my pool?

The Renaissance crew you meet at the showroom is the same crew on your job. Excavation, shell placement, equipment setup, and startup handoff all stay with our own crew — no handoffs.

Why choose Renaissance over another pool company?

Renaissance is a family pool business with more than 30 years in the Las Vegas area, a three-acre Henderson showroom, and in-house builds. You can walk real pool shells, meet the people who will build yours, and verify our Nevada license before you commit.

Can I see the pools in person before I buy?

Yes — that is the whole point of the showroom. Real fiberglass shells you can step into, working display pools, and hot tubs, swim spas, and saunas on the same three acres, instead of choosing from a brochure.

Why fiberglass instead of concrete?

For most homeowners, fiberglass means a faster, more predictable install after permits, a smooth non-porous surface that resists algae, and no replastering cycle. Concrete still suits highly custom shapes and buyers comfortable with a longer, site-built process.

What affects the price of my pool?

Every quote depends on a few site-specific factors: crane access and distance to your yard, permit costs (which vary by city), and — if we hit caliche rock during excavation — extra excavation work. Most things you’d expect to negotiate separately, like pool shape and size, are already built into our standard packages. We don’t publish flat pricing because material and permit costs shift with the market, but we’ll walk you through exactly what’s driving your number.

How long does a fiberglass pool install take?

For a standard residential install, expect about four to six weeks from excavation to first swim once permits and any HOA approvals are in hand. Concrete pools in the same yard typically take three to six months.

How much maintenance does a fiberglass pool really need?

Every pool needs sanitizer and balanced water. The difference is the surface: smooth gel-coat gives algae far less to grip, so most owners spend less time brushing and correcting water chemistry — and never face a replaster bill. Under normal use the shell never needs draining, resurfacing, or acid-washing — and because the non-porous surface holds fewer minerals and leaves algae fewer places to grow, fiberglass needs far less chlorine: most of our pools run mostly chlorine-free, gentle on skin, eyes, and hair.

What’s included, and what’s not?

Included: excavation, the pool shell, plumbing, electrical hookup, and startup — everything it takes to get your pool running. Not included: decking, fencing, tile work, and landscaping around the pool. Most homeowners bring in a separate contractor for that finishing work once the pool itself is in.

Do you serve my area?

We serve Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, Pahrump, Moapa Valley, Overton, Laughlin, Clark County, and surrounding Southern Nevada communities. Contact us with your location and we will confirm service for your address.

Do you build in HOA communities, and what about the down payment?

Yes — we build throughout Southern Nevada, HOA communities included. One thing worth knowing upfront: HOA approval is often the longest part of the process, so if you’re in an HOA, getting your submission moving early is the best way to protect your timeline. We’ll also walk you through the deposit and payment schedule when we put together your quote.

What warranty coverage should I expect?

Shell, equipment, and workmanship coverage are reviewed line by line during quoting, so you know exactly what is covered before you sign anything.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We compare established pool-lending partners — including Lyon Financial and HFS Financial — in one place, with loans up to $250,000 and terms up to 30 years. Each lender sets its own rates and approvals; we walk you through the options during consultation.
